I wish I could say my experience today was as warm and fuzzy as the photo but it was not.I had to get a crown. I've never had a crown before but I understood the concept. I had already canceled once so even though every thing in me was yelling to cancel again, I didn't. I had to get the tooth taken care of before a root canal was the only option.
Let me say right up front. I have never and will never like any dentist office. It is nothing personal I just. don't. like. going. Period
I arrive, I get seated in the lovely recliners that always make you feel at their mercy. I ask a few simple questions about what is going to take place and we begin. The shot starts off the whole thing. Not that bad, as far as shots go but still a shot. The comes the grinding and sanding. I get through it. It takes awhile, the assistant has warned me ahead of time that it would. Finally he stops.. Ahhhhhh a breather. Nope, I'm wrong. Seems the worst is yet to come. He then takes "the string" and proceeds to stuff it up into my gum line with that sharp pointy instrument. No amount of numb is helping. It hurts. I just keep thinking, please let this be over. That is when my body and mind betray me and I start to cry. Yes, I cried. I didn't want to cry and it wasn't from pain, even though it did hurt like hell. It was from frustration of just wanting the whole thing to be over. He then informs me that the string is not working and he must do it again. WHAT? Is this a cruel joke? I get through it, this time isn't so bad. I can only guess he has irritated the gums to the point that they also have given in.
Now we get to do the mold... not once, nope not twice. 3 times before it's consider okay. At least that wasn't painful.
Time for the temp crown to be placed. It goes on but then won't come off. The assistant spends a good 5 minutes picking, scraping, pulling and poking around the gum line to get it to release. Finally the Dr. comes back in. He must use the drill to remove it. Oh more fun. My poor gums are in distress, not to mention my nerves. It finally gives way. They do what they need to do, get it set and send me on my way.
I return in 2 weeks to get my permanent crown.
I can tell you I'm not looking forward to it at all!
