Come a long way

in a short amount of time.

After our beautiful Missy past away the first part of last year we discussed not getting any more animals. While we do adore cats and love having them as pets we thought with the boys getting older and  us spending more time away from home, maybe a pet wasn't a good fit.

Well, life had other ideas.

It wasn't but a month after losing Missy that I looked out front and for a split second I thought I saw Missy asleep under her favorite bush. Not possible. I went outside and as I got close I saw a small, skinny kitty that looked very much like Missy. Of course, she ran off as soon as she saw me. I kept and eye out for a few days and finally saw her across the street. After talking with my neighbors I learned she was a stray that had been trying to eat their cat food. They did not want her and were not feeding her. I inquired at the local pound. They were overflowing and not accepting cats. I couldn't let her starve. She was so skinny and pathetic looking. She just tore at my heart strings.

I started slow with food in the driveway. She would only approach when I was out of site and then it was grab and run back to the bushes. Slowly I worked her into the breezeway. She grew to trust us a little bit. Winter came and I put a box with blankets for her to sleep in. She grew to trust us a little bit more.
I treated her for fleas and brushed her regular to keep her from getting matted.

A couple weeks ago we started letting her inside. A little at a time. Of course, we got her a cat box but for whatever reason she wanted nothing to do with it.
Last week I let her stay in overnight. That was all it took. She is now mostly an indoor cat.
She even started using her cat box.

Just a little over 7 months and she is acclimated to us and inside.
She sleeps with us, she wants to be in whatever room we are in. She is loving and beautiful, making herself right at home.

It all happened so fast. I thought it would take years to get her acclimated. Boy was I wrong.

So much for our plans of no more pets. Life is like that.
It knew what we needed to help our hearts heal and sent us another little friend to love.
