A Busy Weekend

My son is off on his first real adventure.

We let him go with a friend to Oregon. They are visiting grandparents so it's a good thing.

They were going to take the friend's truck but after discussing it Handsome felt better about letting them use our truck. Of course we then had to chip in gas money but that's okay. It's a more dependable vehicle with newer tires.

After  Handsome checked all the fluids and I packed them a cooler full of drinks and snacks they were on their way.

We texted a bit during the day and then my smart, handsome boy remembered to call me when they landed. That made me so happy and proud.

We've texted a few times over the last couples days. They're having fun and all is well.  I'm happy he's having a good time.

After sending them on their way we decided to take ride ourselves. I packed us a lunch and off we went. I thought it would be great to bring you along too.
Ready? Here we go.

Here we are along the river road

Does this look like a field of weeds? Nope, it's onions.

Walnuts
Tomatoes, not the kind you grow in your garden but canning kind.

Crossing the water... oh the cool water

Time to stop for lunch in an orchard. Do you know what these are?
Walnuts.

The Sutter Buttes. This is the smallest mountain range in the world!
It's really pretty in the spring when it's all green.

Hay and sunflowers...

Corn, lots and lots of corn.

Can you guess what this is? It's Safflower.
Looks a lot like weeds again huh?

More cool water

Almonds

Prunes, now I know you're thinking, aren't prunes plums? Technically, yes but they aren't the plums you eat. They're a different variety that are grown only for prunes so farmers call them prunes.

Beans

Rice, lots of rice

And you can't have all those rice fields without some dryers.

Grapes? No, these are Kiwi.

and last but not least by any means.... Peaches!

There were a couple of crops that went by too fast to get photos.. Basil and squash.

Hope you enjoyed the tour.

That was a fun ride - thanks for taking me along...I thought a tomato was a tomato. I had no idea there was a certain type for canning and the same with "prunes". It seems I learn something new every day in Blogland...Glad your son is having a good, safe visit and remembering to check in. It sure calms a mom's heart to hear from them occasionally.
